People first got to see the digital character, Agent_Smith in 1999. People first got to see Russell as SID 6.7, a virtual reality entity in the 1995 movie, Virtuosity.
Russell+Crowe+as+SID+6.7 is much lesser known as, Hugo+Weaving+as+Agent+Smith. Both digital characters would be running on a software program. Such programs could be applied to robotics. This has been extensively depicted in the Terminator_(franchise).
